Happy Opening Day!!!
First things first: the Memphis Redbirds take on the Omaha Royals 7:05 tonight at Rosenblatt Stadium. You can listen to Steve
Selby on 560 AM, just in case you’re worried about missing any games!
On another note, AutoZone Park held our free ‘Bird Watching event yesterday, April 7th, from 11am-2pm. All were invited out to observe the Memphis Redbirds practice and given a chance to purchase ticket packages. Free hot dogs, nachos and soda were given out while visitors enjoyed the beautiful day walking around the park. Here are some pictures of the Redbird fans who were able to make it out!

Jordan. Out.
Media Day!
Hey everyone! Dave here. With opening day just one day away, things are getting really exciting around AutoZone Park. All of the players are here, and have been getting ready for the season. Yesterday was media day at the park, so different media outlets throughout the region were here snapping photos, collecting footage and conducting interviews as the players had a light workout on the field. The weather was awesome, and here are some photos I was able to take from yesterday:

I wasn’t lying when I said the weather was awesome

Groundskeeper Andrew keeping the infield dirt nice and neat

A few pitchers were tossing the ball around in the outfield

The marketing department was shooting some videos with the players

Some reviewed their lines before stepping in front of the camera

The players like Pete Parise (above) were able to have fun with it

Other players used some time to catch up with family and friends

And of course…the media
Rockey is out for the year!
Our mascot Rockey the Redbird injured his wing while in Spring Training with the Cardinals. He is expected to undergo Tommy John surgery immediately and miss the 2010 season.

Weekend in Nashville
Hey everyone! Dave here. I know I know it’s already Wednesday so I apologize for not blogging earlier but I’ve been out sick the last couple of days. Well, this past weekend a total of seven interns made the 3.5 hour trip to Nashville for some country fun and to catch a Vanderbilt baseball game.
We want to thank former Redbirds intern Conrad Bradburn, who is currently Vanderbilt University’s Assistant Director of Marketing, for getting us tickets and letting us job shadow their operation. It’s always good to see how other teams, amateur and professional, run their event.
Hawkins Field: home of the Commodores baseball team
It was a beautiful day, and there was a live band outside for people to listen to as they walked in!

The ballpark is gorgeous with some fun aspects to it:
It has their football stadium as a nice backdrop down the third base line

They have a green monster-esque wall in left field similar to the one at Fenway Park
Kyle and Steve are in Jupiter….Jupiter, FL that is
Hey guys! Dave here. Director of Baseball Operations/PR, Kyle, is with our broadcaster Steve Selby down at the home of Cardinals Spring Training in Jupiter, FL. So Kyle is basically keeping a running daily blog of his time down there on our web site. Here’s the link so you can follow it as well…Redbirds Spring Training
RiverKings fun!
Hey everyone! Dave here. As promised, I have a boat load of photos from Friday night at the RiverKings game. It was a good night all of the way around as not only did the RiverKings win, but there was a gurney race between our very own Rockey and one of their mascots, the RiverThing, during the second intermission. Rockey was also prouncing around the arena throughout the game entertaining fans. Here are some photos I was able to snap:
Rockey entertaining fans before the game
Rockey giving me the double thumbs up
Rockey dropping the puck for the opening face off
Jason, our Ticket Sales Manager was on hand
Rockey making sure the fans are ready for the season!
Rockey entertaining the masses
Onto the race…

Jordan and Marketing intern Matt are ready to join Rockey for the gurney race!
Rockey still finding the time to entertain the kids right before the race

Rockey on the gurney and ready to go

Rockey and Thing getting into it before the race
And they’re off!
Matt is lucky he got up from his spill before I could take a picture of it

They switch it up as Rockey pushes Jordan and Matt to victory!
Jordan celebrating. Matt on the other hand, looks like he needs to catch his breath.

Looks like Matt finally caught his breath and is all smiles
RiverKings game tonight!
Hey everyone! Dave here. Sorry it feels like we’ve been MIA most of the week, but there are a couple of things to share:
1) The Redbirds opened their Spring Training schedule yesterday against the New Orleans Zephyrs. Amary Cazana drove in Donovan Solano the eighth inning to give the Redbirds a 6-5 victory! Matt Scherer pitched a scoreless eighth to get the win and southpaw Rich Rundles left the tying run on first base to close it out in the ninth to pick up the save. They play Double-A Springfield this afternoon, so make sure you stay logged on to www.memphisredbirds.com to find out the outcome!
2) Tonight, Rockey and a bunch of Redbirds staff members (me included) will be attending the Mississippi RiverKings hockey game. I’m being told Rockey will be part of the intermission festivites and a Redbirds table will be set up at the game as well. So if you’re going to the game tonight make sure you stop by and say hi!
Hope everyone has a great weekend and we hope to see you tonight!
Wanted: Memphis Redbirds Catcher, #47
He took all of our ticket vouchers!!
If you see the Memphis Redbirds catcher- please let us know. He’s been hiding on the outskirts of the ballpark and was last seen in the elevator on his way out of AutoZone Park late Monday afternoon with buy one get one ticket vouchers in his glove. These are the photos we’ve received of where he’s been spotted around downtown:

We have a lead that #47 will be at the St. Patrick’s Day parade on Beale Street this Saturday, March 13th and is said to have an entourage with him including nine Redbird Redhots and Rockey. We urge you to act with excitement if around the catcher and approach him for one of the ticket vouchers he has taken from the Memphis Redbirds. All you have to ask #47 is, “have you caught the baseball fever?”
Anyone who finds this catcher and is able to get a good photo of him, please e-mail them to me at jordan.johnson@memphisredbirds.com. It is crucial that we get a hold of this Memphis Redbird in order to bring you fans great promotions and more ticket voucher deals!

The Weather Outside is Delightful
Hey everyone! Dave here. What an unbelievably fantastic weekend it was here in Memphis! I made it a point to spend as much time outside as possible. I went to the Memphis Zoo on Saturday (got to love the Pandas) and Overton Park on Sunday. It’s nice to see the good weather continue to today before some crummy weather hits Memphis on Tuesday.
As for the names of the 2010 Gameday programs, with the voting officially over the winner is (drumroll please)……………….The Bird Feeder! Congratulations to Dennis Farris, Mary Lois Banks & Rebecca Glatt, who all are winners! Thanks to everyone who voted!
Anyway, just want to remind everyone that individual game tickets go on sale one week from today. You can pick up your tickets by visiting the Redbirds box office, online at www.memphisredbirds.com and over the phone by calling 901-721-6000.
Since the weather is so nice today I decided to head out and take a few pics with my camera of the park this morning:

Today is also a big day for the Redbirds employees as it marks the first day of the year 2010 where we pull the tarp. I’ll do my best to try and snap a few pics to give you some visual insight on the art of the tarp pull, but if I also have to pull my weight out there so I’ll do my best.
Exactly one month until opening day! Remember to keep checking Chirp Chatter!
