Player Spotlight: Relief Pitcher and Mr. Funny Man, Andrew Brown
A little background information on Andrew Brown before the interview portion begins. This year, he joins the Memphis Redbirds in his 12th season of baseball. Brown was originally drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the sixth round of the 1999 Major League Baseball Draft. He’s pitched for not only the Braves organization but also for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Sand Diego Padres, Cleveland Indians, Oakland Athletics and Washington Nationals organizations.
He made his first big league appearance August 13th, 2006 with the Cleveland Indians. Brown pitched nine games with the Indians that season, finishing with a 3.60 ERA allowing four runs on six hits in 10 innings of work.
He was traded to the Oakland Athletics the next season and eventually made his way back to the majors appearing in 33 games tacking on his first big league win August 1st against the Detroit Tigers. He also pitched in 33 games for the A’s during the 2008 season. His major league totals are as follows: 73 games, four wins, 86.2 innings pitched, 38 runs on 67 hits with 46 walks and 78 strikeouts for a 3.84 ERA.

Favorite baseball player of all time: The guys on the team would say Stephen Strasburg but I’d have to say I was a big Wade Boggs fan growing up.
What team did you watch growing up? The Boston Red Sox
If you weren’t in baseball, what would you be doing? I’d probably be a pastor…or doing plus size modeling as a pastor.
Most embarrassing moment while playing baseball: Long story short, I was trying to play a joke on a guy and throw a baseball into the stands to kind of scare him by having it hit the seats close to him. It was a guy I used to play with but unfortunately it smoked him right in the neck from about 120 ft. away…it was pretty embarrassing.

What is your best moment on the diamond? First win ever was pretty
cool, that was against the Detroit Tigers…I also struck out A-Rod once.
What is your favorite off-day activity? Hanging out with the family. Hanging out with the little one and the wife doing something fun.
What is the most difficult part about playing professional baseball? The mental grind, especially as a reliever because you could pitch any day. Just having to go out and be successful and dealing with not being successful because in your own mind you’re supposed to do well every time so if it doesn’t go well it’s hard to get over and if you do well, it’s not really satisfying because you were expected to do well.
If you were a kid would you rather be the one in Rookie of the Year, Angels in the Outfield or Little Big League? Rookie of the Year
Where do you see yourself in 25 years? Hopefully with a house full of kids and just spending a lot of time with my family and doing my best to raise them right.
If you were on a reality TV show, which one would it be and why? Either the Biggest Loser or Celebrity Fit Club
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a Fighter Pilot for the Air Force. I’m kind of infatuated with planes, used to have simulators for my computer and stuff like that but I think at some point I grew too large to fit in the cockpit. (He’s 6’6)
Favorite food: Sushi, Jeremy Piven and I have mercury poison from all the sushi we eat.
Favorite TV Show: Currently, my favorite show is anything that has to do with the NFL. Anything on the NFL channel or ESPN (pronounced as a word, not as individual letters)
I’m afraid…that I won’t represent Jesus Christ the way I should.
Tell us one thing about you the fans don’t already know: I was home schooled from the fourth grade on. And I took my sister to prom…too much? That was a joke people.
Who is your greatest influence? My parents.
Do you have any autographs? I’ve been in pro ball for twelve years and I’ve only asked for three people’s autographs. I’ve asked for Frank Thomas, Mike Piazza and Stephen Strasburg’s. I’ve caught a lot of flack for the Stasburg one since he is younger than me, but he’s a good dude and he’s going to be pretty good some day.
Newest Hobby: Cycling and I’m pretty excited about my new bib shorts.

What do you like best about the city of Memphis? I like the weather, people seem nice and the food it good.
Any broken bone stories? Just a broken heart (that part he sang)…no but seriously, no broken bones. I did break some teeth in high school on a bad hop on a ground ball and I had braces at the time. The teeth broke, stuck to the braces and my lip was embedded in the braces. But we won the game, so it was all good.
Describe yourself in five words or less: Chill, goofy, responsible, shnuggly (that’s for you honey!) and Christian.
