Redbirds + Sounds = I-40 Cup Series
This season marks the first of what will be many I-40 Cup Series between the Memphis Redbirds and the Nashville Sounds.
“Adding a piece of hardware really puts a spotlight on this interstate rivalry,” Memphis Redbirds General Manager Ben Weiss said. “The Cup is a great centerpiece to a long-lasting relationship with the Tennessee Education Lottery.”
The overall winner of the season-long series between the Redbirds and the Sounds will receive the two-foot-tall I-40 Cup, while the loser of the series will donate 25 tickets to the winner’s charity of choice.
“Both ballclubs are proud of the Tennessee Lottery’s long-standing support of Minor League Baseball in Tennessee,” Nashville Sounds Vice President/General Manager Brad Tammen said. “This trophy will add another exciting element to our cross-state rivalry.”
Nashville currently leads the all-time record between the two clubs at 123-101.
