Former Redbirds In The MLB Playoffs
Thirty-three former members of the Memphis Redbirds are currently competing for a World Series championship in the MLB playoffs.
The majority of that group are 26 members of the World Champion St. Louis Cardinals, Memphis’ Major League affiliate. A majority of the Cardinals’ Division Series roster have played in Memphis during their careers, including 12 members of the Redbirds’ 2012 club.
The Cincinnati Reds have two former Redbirds on their roster, while the Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, Washington Nationals, New York Yankees, and Oakland Athletics boast one, with the exception of Kevin Long (Memphis Chicks).
There are no former Redbirds on the postseason rosters of the Atlanta Braves or San Francisco Giants.
Don’t forget to join the Redbirds to watch Game #2 of the 2012 World Series at AutoZone Park on Thursday, October 25. Click here for more information.

The 11th and final homestand of 2012 has come and gone. The ‘Birds took three-of-five games from Albuquerque and played hard against division-leading Omaha to close out the year. Shelby Miller named PCL Pitcher of the Week
Memphis Redbirds’ starting pitcher Shelby Miller has earned his second Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week honor this season.
Despite taking the loss, Miller scattered two runs on five hits with 12 strikeouts against Iowa on Aug. 21 and picked up the win versus Albuquerque on Aug. 26 as he allowed only one run on two hits with seven strikeouts at AutoZone Park.
Miller is 6-3 with a 3.40 ERA and 65 strikeouts over his past 10 appearances and he has only allowed a total of four walks in his past five August starts. His team-leading 151 strikeouts also ranks him second in the PCL, while he also currently leads the Redbirds in games/starts by a starting pitcher (26) and innings pitched (130.2).

John Gast named Cardinals’ Minor League Player of the Month
The 23-year-old John Gast, who was the Cardinals’6th-round selection out of Florida State University in the 2010 first-year player draft, posted a perfect 3-0 record with a 2.70 ERA in five starts striking out 30 batters in 30 innings for the month of July.
Gast currently leads the Redbirds with eight wins and his 12-combined wins between Springfield and Memphis leads all Cardinals’ farmhands, and it also ranks him third among all minor league baseball pitchers. He also ranks sixth in the minors with 139.0 total innings pitched.
Shelby Miller named PCL Pitcher of the Week
Shelby Miller has been named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week.
Miller is coming off two stellar performances, collecting wins against both Round Rock (July 30) and Fresno (Aug. 5), while posting 16 strikeouts over 14 total innings of work. He has not allowed a walk over his last four appearances and currently leads the Redbirds in strikeouts (115) and his 106.1 innings pitched ranks him second on the team.
Miller is the first Memphis pitcher this season to earn PCL Pitcher of the Week honors. He is scheduled to pitch next on Saturday, August 11, at AutoZone Park against Tacoma.

The Redbirds are coming off of an extremely successful homestand in which they swept the four-game series with the Oklahoma City RedHawks. The ‘Birds had an eventful third game scoring a franchise-high 24 runs on 24 hits and also set a new franchise record with two grand-slams, not only in the same game, but in the same inning!
